$5 (hell, $15) is a small price to pay for what this brings. A non-childish spot on the net to converse with intelligent people. Frankly, I hate all the rudeness and posturing you find on most message boards. ---

For me, it was mostly about the search function. I don’t post all that often, so I wasn’t going to subscribe. I wouldn’t miss posting. But I found that I did miss the ability to search. Especially for movies in Cafe Society. I love watching a movie and then reading the discussion about it here. Plus, the promise of half off in the future was pretty good. I had this fear that in three months I would decide that I really did want to subscribe, and then I would kick myself every time I had to renew. ---

Five dollars was the least I could give for finding out how much certain things I did annoyed others and learning to change. (I’m a much better driver now, for instance, because of rants I read in the BBQ Pit.) And in any case, I love this board, and as **NoClueBoy** said, it’s an inexpensive addiction. ---

To fight ignorance of course (my own, mostly). I lurked for a year before I joined and since then I have not exactly been a posting maniac. The SDMB, even without posting much, is a product worth paying for. The diversity of knowledgable, well-reasoned (or well-stated) viewpoints in GD, the breadth and depth of response to questions in GQ, the amorphous fandom of Cafe Society, and the pure entertainment value of IMHO, MPSIMS, and the pit all make it worth five bucks. Sure, the product is uneven, but skip past the shows you don’t like and it’s great. Okay. I’m an addict. ---

I subscribed because I love this board. I hardly ever post, and I claimed I wasn’t going to subscribe in a “Who’s leaving?” thread, but I think it’s such a fabulous message board. I have learned so much, it’s made me a better conversationalist because now I know all sorts of weird tid-bits and, what best, I know they’re true because of the nature of the board. I didn’t have to subscribe, but I was afraid I’d feel amputated if I couldn’t post once in a while. Plus, it was only $5. To be well-informed by a group of people who are on the same sort of cultural and intellectual wavelength as me for a whole year… it’s worth it. ZJ ---

On a cost-per-laugh basis, this is the cheapest spot on the planet. Ditto for cost-per-intelligent thought. Hell, I’d pay the money just to read some of the meltdowns in The Pit. 😃 Cheaper than crack, and twice as addictive. ---

I’m an Online Shopaholic. I hadn’t bought anything in three days, and I was in terrible shape. Sweating, fingernails worn down to the cuticle, sores on my arms from the constant nervous scratching. My thoughts had already turned suicidal. SDMB saved my life by switching to pay-service. Thank you. ---

1. I was in a bad situation six months ago and a Doper agreed to let me move in with him and to try to improve my lot in life. 2. When that didn’t work out as well, another Doper offered me a job and I believe this will work out better than anything here could have. 3. Other Doper friends in general. I could list off two dozen names right now of people that have become honestly good friends, despite my having never met them. 4. Someone paid for me anyway. 🙂 Thanks, Joey. ---

Since I joined, I’ve learned so much and laughed so hard I couldn’t put a price on it. Even if I never posted or visited again (not bloody likely), it’s worth the 5 bucks just to say thanks. (hell, it’s worth 5 bucks just for all the times I’ve been able to prove my friends wrong, mwahaha 😃 ) ---

I actually tried to avoid subscribing. I attempted to quite the Dope. :eek: In the end, however, my addiction took over and I antied up. I just can’t stay away from the discussions. And I was able to beat an addiction to Mt Dew. ---
