> Chalk it up to a difference of usage, I suppose. It seems to me that “last spring” would mean “spring last year” as opposed to “just this past spring”. That might make a good IMHO thread - if it’s Thursday and someone says “last Wednesday”, do you take it to mean “yesterday”.

No but if it’s Tuesday I might. Regardless, it’s just a song. And not a particularly good one, IMHO. Not worth getting one’s panties in a wad over.

I loved that Wildfire song! I had _no idea_ they died. 😃

My nomination for the absolutely worst song: Morning Train. Remember? _My baby takes the morning train…_

a kiss for luck and we’re on our way!!!

the worst song in the world is Richard Harris singing “McArthur Park”. Donna Summer was bad, but Richard brings an earnest “I am a actor” vibe to it. scary.

The most horrifying part of this was that there had to be at least three people who thought it was a good idea: Harris, an agent, and a producer.

I like Harris’s MacArthur Park.
A worst song I’ll nominate- the Prince-Sheena Easton duet “You’ve Got the Look”.
“Boy Versus Girl in the World Series of Love!”
Another couple- “Father Figure” and “Uptown (?) Boy” by George Michael. They were always creepy, then they became positively pederastic! (the latter in reverse, I guess that would be catamitic).

I like “Wildfire.” It makes me cry. I didn’t realize really until this board that someone had died - I thought Wildfire got lost in a blizzard and that girl went running calling his name and then she got lost. I didn’t know she died or was already dead or whatever. Shades of Wuthering Heights - that’s what the song reminded me of - Wildfire running over the moors in a blizzard. (I’m sure Emily B. is turning over in her grave thinking I equate her grand masterpiece to some hokey horse song.)

I also like “Afternoon Delight.” Good harmonies there.

How about “Do that to Me One More Time”?

Straying into the 80s, how long ago did “Like a Virgin” come out and it was only the other night that I realized it is “your love thawed out (what was growing cold)” and not “your love thought out”. I pronounce them the same but always did wonder what his love was thinking out.

In re the OP, my parents used to play what’s-his-name when I was quite young and apparently kept hoping I wouldn’t ask: “What does ‘don’t go home with your hard-on’ mean?” 😉

What’s his name?? John Prine? Leonard Cohen? One of those sardonic guys.

Evil? In what way–was the content of the lyrics too happy for you?
It’s hard enough these days to find a happy sentiment in popular music…You sound like you want to root it out.
Thank you, Friederich Nietzsche.

So sorry. I just didn’t want to suffer alone, which is what happens when ever this topic comes up. That damn song gets stuck in my head. Afternoon Delight has _nothing_ on Morning Train. 😛

The worst song in the world discussion is a reoccuring one between me and a friend of mine. He continues to insist that it’s “Never Been to Me” while I argue that it’s clearly Michael Bolton’s “Can I touch you…there”. There’s even an ellipsis in the title, for cripe’s sake! The lyrics are [here](http://www.lyrics007.com/Michael%20Bolton%20Lyrics/Can%20I%20Touch%20You...There%20Lyrics.html) if you want to see for yourself although it’s a form of audio hell that should be experienced first-hand by listening to it.

Now, if there was a contest for Creepiest song ever, I’m pretty certain by Conway Twitty would win fair and square. [“You’ve never been this far before”](http://www.lyricsxp.com/lyrics/y/you_ve_never_been_this_far_before_conway_twitty.html). _Shudder_

I’d be interested to hear everyone’s opinion on a song I think is truely bad. I use to sing it at the top of my lungs to my boyfriend when we were out in the back yard doing back yard type stuff.

It’s was done by David Cassidy

How can I be sure
In a world that’s con-stant-ly changing
How can I be sure
where I stand with you?

When ever I
When ever I
Am away from you
My alibi
Is telling people I dont care for you

Baby I’m just Hanging Around
With my head up… upside down

etc.

(yes, we did eventually split-up)

Actually, that was the Young Rascals. David Cassidy may have covered it, I’ve honestly never heard any version other than the Young Rascals version.

I love that song. It’s on the tail end of my Oldies mix CD just before “Our Day Will Come” (Ruby & The Romantics) and “It’s All In The Game” (Tommy Edwards).
