Why did the MSM fall for the Jussi Smollett hoax?

This is America in 2019. That’s why this is the hoax Smollett went with, as opposed to being beaten up by an Italian truck driver or the antifas or whatever. He picked it because it’s closest to reality. Hate crimes are up. Trump supporters have been charged and convicted with assault and even murder. We have them on tape sucker-punching protesters who were walking away. We have them on tape threatening violence. We have them on tape ramming cars into crowds. It’s not unusual. (You stated we’re not doing cites, so I assume you’re totally willing to take this at face falue).

Personally I wouldn’t have used that tag line as it’s a bit over the top, but it is indeed spot-on.

Who said this?

No; I don’t believe you. Cite?

By the way, for the conspiratorially-minded right-wingers here, I’ve been watching CNN today. Basically the only thing on CNN is this story of the hoax.

If CNN has such a big agenda to hurt Trump, no matter what the truth of the matter is, why aren’t they doing the predictable thing and burying the story?

(Note that Fox News buries stories that aren’t favorable to Trump all the damn time.)

Brooke Baldwin said it on CNN Newsroom.

Thanks, HD, but it wasn’t necessary. I don’t think anyone really doubted it, and it will make no difference now.

Your “source” is a right-wing editorial.

The author’s colon is full of his politics.

Yes, here is video of it if you prefer to see it first-hand.

Yes, I would prefer to see it firsthand. Most people prefer to get their information that way, FYI.
edited to add: That isn’t “first-hand”. That is an 11 minute Tucker Carlson spewing. Do you even understand what “first-hand” means?

I know you want to push this right-wing trash, but can you just give us a direct link?

It’s in the video, at 1:50. Like Shodan, I have my doubts about the sincerity of those questioning whether it happened or not, but the clip is included in the montage. For anyone who is seriously questioning whether it happened, that should suffice.

Is this how Tucker cons people into viewing his crap?
edited to add-I noticed that it was an edited version of what she said. Got a direct link without the cut out?

No, I don’t. I provided what I have. In my view, any reasonable person would at this point concede that Brooke Baldwin did indeed say “This is America in 2019”. Is there still some doubt about this fact in your mind?

I’m totally willing to concede that Brooke Baldwin lowered herself to the low journalistic ethics of the right-wing alternative media in her unscripted comment. She should not make Fox News, the Washington Examiner, The Blaze. and similar outlets her equal in terms of objectivity. The reason I asked who it was was to determine whether it was actually said by a journalist who ought to know better, or by some commentator (of which there are far too many on news programs).

Even that being the case, Brooke Baldwin doesn’t speak for the mainstream media. I didn’t read that comment in the Washington Post, the New York Times, USA Today, NBC News, or any other outlet. But those with an axe to grind against journalists are using one mistake to smear everyone, as is a typical Trumpist tactic.

I asked a question some time ago to which the right-wingers just did an ostrich: if the mainstream media did a poor job of reporting on the initial attack – an assertion for which nobody has been able to explain beyond “bu-bu-but they did so BAD!” – show me an example of a news organization that covered the story with the highest standards that we should hold other journalists to.

Apparently that’s Tucker Carlson, several weeks later?

Provide the link and it will be challenged as a Russian generated deep fake.

the text you placed in a quote box does not appear AT ALL at the link you posted.

This is what I meant. Horse, water, etc.

It surely is a tragedy that I won’t accept a citation that doesn’t actually say what a poster said it did.

Shit, you’re right, I copied the wrong link. The correct one is here:

https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/sns-201902201036--tms--amvoicesctnav-bb20190220-20190220-column.html

The author was John Kass.

ETA: Do you believe a CNN anchor said it now, or is there still some doubt in your mind?
