Why did Trump mismanage the covid pandemic?

I still think it was Trump prioritizing “people go to my hotels and resorts”.

Has anyone yet raised the subject of his shortsightedness?

Although he is dumb and lazy and cruel, he is also remarkably short-sighted. When informed of a pandemic that could well have serious long-term consequences for his nation and his administration, his immediate thought was “No, I don’t want that.” So he devised a plan to downplay it, deny it, attribute it to an evil-minded media, etc. and hen when he kept being shown to be wrong, he doubled down and tripled down, trying to convince others as he had convinced himself that a devastating plague on the country and its economy COULDN’T be happening because he very much didn’t want it to be happening.

I would prefix that with ‘Narcissitic, greedy…’
He wants fame and attention
He wants money
He is not the sharpest tool in the shed
He would prefer if someone else did the work, took the risk, shouldered the blame

As an old person, I didn’t see this. I got special early hours at the supermarket, if I wanted them, and I was given priority for the vaccines.
Now I live in the Bay Area, where almost everyone masked at the height of the pandemic, and where they shut down early. The result was a much lower mortality rate than most of the country, despite having close ties to China.
