Why did Van Gogh cut off his ear?

The film that roger thornhill mentioned does a nice job with portraying the stormy relationship between Van Gogh and gaughin, by the way.

It appears to be a superb film all the way around. I looked it up on Amazon.com to check the price and found not a single negative review out of eighteen posted.

Oh my God, it’s exactly how I feel when SA doesn’t acknowledge one of my carefully crafted posts!!!

Thanks!

When did I ever do that, roger? You know you’re one of my most highly regarded posters…and besides, I would never be so careless to someone who sends such wonderful bottles of Port.

I once heard a rumor that it was the absinthe that drove him batty.

Starvers, who’s whooshing who?

I’ve heard the same rumor, but never seen any evidence to back it up. Yes some artists who were known to drink the stuff (including IIRC Ernest Hemmingway) did commit suicide. But the majority of absinthe drinkers didn’t go mad or kill themselves.

Uh…you’re whooshing me???

It was just my way of nodding my head when reading your assessment of the relationship between VG and Gauguin.

Whew!

Thanks. I was afraid I had committed some ghastly faux pas there for a moment.
