I came, I saw I registered. I saw that I needed a user name, and all I could think of was cornflakes. No, it has nothing to do with [Cecil’s famous epithet.](http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a1_062a.html) It came from a high school memory. My band was putting together a flyer. We asked a friend for a quote and he said, “All I can think of is cornflakes.” Actually, he said fishsticks, but I got that one wrong too. ---

I am not French, not that there’s anything wrong with that. ---

“Metacom” sounds like the name of a failed dot com, which is fitting because I work in the tech industry, and it was also the name of one of the first American Indians to declare war on the European settlers in North America. I like the dualism. 😃 ---

I started using mine years ago at some site where I was frustrated that every name I chose was unavailable. When next asked for a name I typed **don’t ask** and that was acceptable. ---

A colophon is the mark a publishers uses to identify itself on a book. I work in publishing (although not books), and I also thought “colophon” sounds like a device one might use to listen to somebody speaking out of their backside. So it’s doubly appropriate. Also, I just thought it sounded nice. ---

Odin, cheif of the Norse gods gave one of his eyes to gain wisdom. Right before I started posting, I lost the use of my left eye. I like to think I gained wisdom from the experience. But who knows. ---

My name is **Gyt\_fx** , pronounced, quite simply: Gee-Why-Tee (underscore) Eff Ex. I got GYT pretty randomly from playin D2, and it stuck; so I adopted that as kind of a tag on my internet names. Then the ‘fx’ comes from my clan on D2. Gyt\_fx. On my names in Halo or Counterstrike, it’s Gyt\_fx[Bigwig], so people know that Bigwig is the one killin em :p. ---

I’ve been using scumpup since the 90’s when bulletin boards and ICQ and such really started to explode. I began using it as a form of mockery against all the people who were using names like FoxxieLadie and rAMrOD and Sexgoddess and WellHung. ---
