# Why do eastern cultures value honor more than the west?

That would have stemmed from a desire of a man to insure that all of the children a man’s wife bore would be _his_ and not some other guy’s. Of course, your bride being a virgin until the wedding night isn’t a 100% guarantee, but it definitely increases the odds.
