Well, yes. Rape is bad. Genocide is bad. Irresponsible harvesting of natural resources is bad. Urban overcrowding is bad. Poverty is bad. These are easy. Mix 'em up a bit and ask people how they would prioritize them and things get more interesting. For an added twist, to play on madmonk28’s Lewis & Clark proposition, let’s say there is competition to do horrible things for good as well as horrible reasons, (Let’s pretend for a minute there was competition between, of France, Spain, and England to perform the same kind of reconnaissance envisioned by Washington DC). Now, which basket of evil is preferable: gang raping Sacagawea, or participating to some degree in the multitude of atrocities that accompanied colonizing the lands west of the Mississippi–attrocities which Sacagawea herself is now complicit in facilitating? Or participating not at all when it is a certainty someone else will? But golly that’s all very complicated and requires consideration of identifying and accepting smaller horrors to prevent greater ones. Best to just blame complexities on the questioner and not give it a second thought. I don’t want to speak for the OP, that’s that’s the sort of thing I was referring to in the post you quoted.
Come to think of it, why isn’t this thread in the pit? I know it didn’t start out to be a pitting of Skald, but that’s what it has turned into. It should be moved.
Has anyone asked the mods?
I reported my own post to do just that.
And the best thing is, you don’t even need two hands to do it.
Is this even intended to make sense?
This thread started off asking a question about hypotheticals, and despite moderator instruction to the contrary, has morphed into a proxy Pit thread about Skald. I’m not moving this thread to the Pit. If you want to Pit a poster, you’re welcome to start a thread doing so. This is not that thread.
I’m going to give this thread one last chance, on a fairly short leash.

[li]If you want to talk about the merits (or lack thereof) of certain hypotheticals, you may do so in here. [/li][li]If you want to attack people who start hypotheticals, you may do so in the Pit in a new thread.[/li][/ul]
I realize there is some common ground in the discussion, but this has gotten way out of hand for an IMHO thread. If you have any doubt about whether you’re treading the line of just insulting another poster, err on the side of caution or head Pit-ward.
Thanks.
Being able to communicate clearly is a valuable skill. On that note, I’m going to exit the thread because 1) I risk getting in trouble 2) it’s become very strange.
Perhaps in a very twisted, Obi-Wan Kenobiesque “from a certain point of a view” way.
Or else it’s a really pseudo-intellectual way of suggesting that Skald likes to play “Death Is Not An Option”, without actually saying so.
