I never consciously touch my lenses, so I also wondered how they got fingerprints on them. Finally, I figured it out! It’s when I first get up in the morning and fish around for my glasses. That’s the only time I’m sloppy about getting my fingers on the lenses. ---

I bet after you put your glasses on, one of your very next stops is the bathroom. Wash your glasses then, and they’ll be fine all day. ---

My sight is still good enough to get around without glasses if it doesn’t involve reading small script or driving a car, so I only put them on in the morning after I have done my bathroom routine and have dressed. But I sometimes have rather dry or itching eyes, so from time to time I wipe them with a finger, and that’s when the fingerprints on the lenses happen. ---
