# Why do panties have cotton crotches?

I don’t understand why girl’s and women’s panties need cotton linings in the crotch. If its for better breathability, then wouldn’t a nylon layer directly under the cotton be less breathable than the nylon all by itself?

And why do cotton panties have an extra cotton lining?
