# Why do people create threads with titles.........

Strictly speaking, we do [require](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=7697092&postcount=3) that thread titles be descriptive as a matter of etiquette. But “descriptive” doesn’t have to mean the same thing as “nothing left to say in the body of the post.”

On the other hand, if what you plan on writing for the OP is so brief as to make the above distinction impossible, it might be a good idea to refrain from posting until you have more to say.

When someone told me that she had written a book called “Stiff” (before I saw the cover) I thought it was a book about sex…you know \*Stiff…get it? I guess this post has very little to do with anything except that your question made me think of how a title can either give it all away, or be very ambiguous.
