I think it’s evolutionary. We always have a fart on Alert-5, ready to launch at any moment, so when we are at our most vulnerable while peeing, we automatically fire that bastard into the sky to keep you safe from bogeys. ---

Their digestive system won’t process anymore, although they may bloat. Eventually whatever they eat should distend their bellies enough that it ruptures and all food just goes right out the front. So… they don’t pee. They may make gassy releases but they’re not farting in the conventional sense. ---

Excursus: The ambiguity has caused centuries of inappropriate amusement whenever the justly famous and deeply moving soprano aria known as “[When I Am Laid](http://youtu.be/H3wAarmPYKU)” is mentioned. It is from the opera _Dido and Aeneas_ by Henry Purcell. Ordinarily, an aria from an opera is referred to by citing its first words, usually to the first verb. I fart in the bathroom (which might be while peeing) in order not to fart in the office, bedroom, etc… ---

It’s a little know fact that weary after penning the 2nd law of motion, Newton had to pee and then farted, thus promulgating the 3rd. Not really. ---

The process of simultanously contracting the bladder or the rectum, most often inclusive of increasing intra-abdominal pressure, while sending the signal to relax one or the other sphincter, often has cross talk to some degree. On the peds side we see the converse - kids with dysfunctional voiding of the bladder (which can show up as wetting or as urinary tract infections) are also commonly constipated - that is also have dysfunctional rectal emptying. One not getting coordinated well usually results in the other being klutzy too and treating one requires addressing the other if present. (Other issues come into play as well but are not pertinent to this thread.) ---
