She’s ultra-rich because of her daddy. She never had to work a day in her life. She’s egotistical and conceited. She wears her superficiality (yes, that _is_ a word) on her sleeve. She’s spoiled and obnoxious. So why are people crazy about her? Why is she so famous? I can’t stand her and I’d just like to find out what people see in her. Adam ---

_Who_ exactly is crazy about her??? Apart from the odd lovestruck doper, I detect mostly hate and revulsion. I personally can’t stand her. ---

I’m not sure anyone loves her or is crazy about her, but she is this cartoon character/celebrity that is publicized to death. She keeps up these antics which get covered and people notice, even if only long enough to sigh or shake their head. Don’t assume that wide publicity=people liking her. People who actually associate with her personally may like the fact that she has access to places and things they want access to. And some people are just attracted to wealth, fame and excess. Or maybe she really is a lot of fun. ---

For all the reasons you stated. She’s in the “love to hate” catagory of celebreties. And I know of a least a couple of straight guys who would love to bang her something bad. ---

Then why is she famous? Simply because people love to hate her? She may be getting laughed at on her show, _The Simple Life_, but she’s the one laughing all the way to the bank. adam ---

My normally sensible, fiftysomething husband finds Paris Hilton to be very entertaining. He apparently thinks her arrogance and ignorance are an act. I, on the other hand, believe that underneath all the fake, glitzy exterior there is a fake, dull interior. Paris is a person whom no one would notice if it weren’t for the money, the peroxide, and the buttcrack-revealing outfits. ---

I don’t know much about her (who can blame me?) but I can guess at a possible reason for so much hate… She’s wealthy only because of inheritance, not because of talent or hard work. She flaunts it. She’s fugly. ---

You know, I was actually going to start a thread asking the same thing but I just didn’t care enough. I don’t know what it is about her. Other than being rich and semi-attractive, she doesn’t have anything going for her. Someone I work with had an infatuation with her (it seems to have died down, moved to Natalie Portman, which I can understand, and now seems to be centered around his new car). I can’t explain what the deal is with her. I feel that part of it is people are waiting for a trainwreck to happen but she’s managed to survive a couple already. ---

I think a big part of it is the fact that she not only keeps topless photos of herself kissing another woman on her cell phone, but allows them to get leaked out, along with a nice big bragging list of (fake) phone numbers of other celebrities. Some people get attacted to someone who manages to keep herself in the spotlight, but in a skanky, scandelous way, or maybe just the stuff she does. These are the same people who think that the head cheerleader in high school was the coolest girl in school (as well as people who WERE the head cheerleader) and FTR - if she was really friends with Eminem, do you think she’d be calling him by his stage name in her address book? ---

I think people pretty much hate her. She’s famous for the same reason Anna Nicole Smith, the rest of the Osbourne family, and that really crappy singer guy who auditioned for American Idol are famous - because she makes a fool of herself in public. She’s a clown - a jester. On a good day, she’s not unattractive. But there are MUCH better looking women out there. I agree that she’s way too skinny. And her face is weird. Those sunken eyes don’t do it for me. ---

I’m sorry, but I find _The Simple Life_ entertaining when I don’t want to use a single brain cell. I just laugh and laugh. I also like to count how many times they say “That’s hot.” TV station dude: Would you both like to know your grades for today? TV station dude: Nicole, you got a D. Nicole: That’s hot.
