I always thought so you don’t have to turn the music off when the kids come in the room. Explicit lyrics are a parent’s nightmare. I was out with my son one day when he was about five or six. Somebody had their music turned up and I hear, ‘_NEXT THING I KNOW SHE WAS SUCKING MY DICK_’. Fortunately, he wasn’t paying attention. ---

One reason is that the word “sex” isn’t very singable. Some phonemes are easier to sing than others, which is why there have been so many moon/June/spoon songs. The “x” at the end of “sex” is hard to sing because of the “k” sound embedded in it. The “v” in “love” is easier to sing because it’s a voiced consonant. Oscar Hammerstein II felt that he made a mistake with the lyric of _What’s the Use of Wonderin’_ from _Carousel_ by ending it with “and all the rest is talk.” The final “k” isn’t very singable, and he thought it killed any chance the song would become a hit.
