Not only does my nic specify gender it also has an air of superiority to it. That’s right I’m a not only a mermaid, I’m The Mermaid and that’s Miss Mermaid if you’re nasty. Besides, merperson just sounds silly. ---

My “other” online username alludes to Yosemite National Park (in a really _really_ obscure way) so I thought I’d try a name that was more directly Yosemite-related. I automatically assumed that “Yosemite” was taken (I never checked) and anyway, I don’t want people thinking I’m a fan of the cartoon character. I could have gone with “El Capitan”, “Half Dome”, “Merced River”, “Tuolumne”, or “Wawona” but not all of these are automatically recognized as being about Yosemite. I didn’t like the sound of “Yosemitegirl”, and “Yosemiteperson” sounds lame. So, yosemitebabe it is. I like it. ---

Let’s all stop lying here girls. We do it **because we can** and it gives us such an amazing advantage in life because men think with their genitals… Really we do… We do. Toothpaste and sheep notwithstanding. Who really the fuck **CARES** about the gender of other posters? One of the things I love about this place is that I don’t have a fucking _clue_ when I encounter people on the SDMB whether they are black or white, male or female, religious or atheist, young or old, big or small - I most certainly don’t often have any idea of their age or their sexuality. As we aren’t talking any of the “romance” languages here which attribute male or female attributes, by what criteria do you decree certain adjectives “female”? FTR - 42 year old single mum whose former partner died of AIDS. White. Do you want to know my weight too? Would that help you slot me into some kind of convenient category? Why don’t I just save you the trouble? Small breasted, redhead, under 120 pounds. BTW **Shrew** - “I menstruate” is one of the best sig lines I’ve ever seen around this place - if you don’t intend to use it, can I? ---

**Ringo** = **beatle** _ **= bug vomit?!?** _ Wow, me feel dumb. :o I may not have feminized my username, but I think **brachyrhynchos** has a rather euphonious (and thus by default, feminine) quality which is why I choose it over the more masculine (to my ear) **Corvus** …which was later taken by **Corvus** (obviously). But maybe that’s just me. ---
