Why do some people hate Matt Drudge and The Drudge Report? He’s heavily right-wing biased, that’s another reason many don’t like him. … Of course they say that with much stronger words… of which I’m not sure of the truth, I’ve never bothered visiting Drudge myself. I’m extremely liberal, and willing to admit it (I’m on the Canadian far left… I vote NDP because it’s the closest major party). I know we don’t see eye to eye. In the same vein, that “Moderate Independent” seems about as moderate and independent as Fox News is “Fair and Balanced”… Which puts them on about the level for as much as I believe what they say. ---

He’s a closeted gay, but embraces (sorry) the Bush Admin’s conservative social agenda He’s a shill for the GOP and commands a readership/influence that the NYT or Washington Post can only dream of ---

On the other hand, some of these same friends once said the same thing about rumors that Ronald Reagan was senile. I honestly don’t know whether Drudge is gay – is he: - A modern-day Roy Cohn? - A victim of a smear campaign? - Or a conflicted conservative who can’t admit that there is such a thing as homosexual orientation (and/or doesn’t want to go back to delivering newspapers for a living)? ---

[/QUOTE] I can’t remember the last time I went to his site but I do catch his radio show from time to time while I am at work. I have never heard him say anything that would make him a hypocrite or “conflicted” as to the gay issue. He seems pretty liberal on occasions when it comes to social issues. I would say none of the above. He just doesn’t talk about his personal life. I’m no expert, thats just the impression I get from hearing him on occasion. ---

Drudge claims to be neutral, but the right-wing noise machine plays him like a Wurlitzer. Whenever a dozen right wing columnists and “newscasters” parrot the same smear on the same day, you can safely bet it was first seen at Drudge. Then they can all say, “I didn’t start it, I saw it on Drudge!” They can slip even the slimiest lie past him, because he never checks anything. ---
