The logic is that a judge has already ruled that there is enough evidence to bust into the guys house for a search.
If it’s an arrest warrent, they can just pick him up off the street.
The problem with picking the guy up off the street is that he is moving. That means they need to follow him to wherever he is going without spooking him. Set up a perimeter so he can’t escape. Then they need to secure the suspect so that he can’t flee or create a hostage/shootout situation.
So it seems to me that busting in the door of some unsuspecting criminal with overwhelming force is far superior to trying to grab him off the street.
I think part of the deal too is that you want the whole package together. You want to bust the guy, sitting on the couch with the drugs, guns, and scales on the coffee table. You might get lucky and get some other guys with warrants at the same time. If you grab him at 7-11, how do you tie him to the drugs? He doesn’t own the house, probably doesn’t even rent it. He says, “I was just visiting a friend there”.
