This was before my time, but someone I work with told me that back in the 1950’s prisoners were actually used to create an early version of Rhogam for patients. They would purposely sensitize Rh negative people with Rh postitive cells in order to create anti-D. Then they would draw and administer the prisoner’s blood to Rh negative mothers having Rh positive babies.
