What I don’t get is what he expects to get from all this. Is there really profit to be made this way?

Ironically, I happened to be up most of the night due to insomnia. So we had good coverage against spam last night… until about 20 minutes before the bozo decided o show up and I ran out of steam and went to bed (some of the other mods may have been up as well).
It’s kinda funny how much effort he is putting into this, constantly changing his phone number, chanting his posts around to evade bans, etc. I know we’re just probably one of many places that he’s spamming, but he has to be manually signing up here as well. It’s a lot of effort to post an Indian phone number on a message board that not only has a relatively low percentage of Indian members, but also is dedicated to fighting ignorance about things like voodoo love and astrology. Talk about advertising in all the wrong places. Can’t miss your target audience by much more than that.
By my psychic predictions, I don’t think he’s going to get much of a response from people on this board.

Selecting a mod in a much different time zone is the only workable solution. Sydney Australia is 16 hours ahead of Central US time. Seems perfect. Our late nights are their evenings. I’ve seen several Aussies post here. Maybe a g’day is in order?
btw, if someone is hesitant to Mod because of the time commitment. Then maybe they could just delete the obvious spam posts? Let the regular mods handle the routine board squabbles.

Being a member of the moderation staff here means that some commitment of your time and energy is necessary and expected.
This means not only removing spam and settling squabbles but also reading the assigned forum areas as a matter of course and working with other moderators as needed.
It’s not just hit the spammer or kill the troll. We want moderators to be involved in all we do or not at all.
One problem is that moderators only get reports from their own forums. So we would either need a dozen new mods from those time zones; or else a smaller number of mods would be overwhelmed with reports from multiple forums.
It’s not like every other post you see is spam. Might not get it cleaned up instantly but we’re doing out damndest.
And some of it is mildly interesting as well. I didn’t realize there was a market for some of the crap they try to sell.
Just the same, sorry that y’all are bugged by it. We will always strive to make it a better, spam-free world, but if you can keep a good attitude and be even mildly amused by the ridiculousness of the deal, that helps.
