Why do they rush you home so quick after surgery

For my wife’s outpatient procedures we have always had to stay inordinately long. They won’t let her go until she pees and her bladder just takes a while to recover from anesthesia.

Have never felt rushed once; I’ve been in the bigger hurry to get her out of there already.

Why anyone would want to stay in a hospital even one minute more than they absolutely have to is beyond me.

I had a lumpectomy last year and I was supposed to go home the same day, but I got so sick from the anesthesia that they keep me overnight.

Double Win! Inteligent as well as good looking! In Aus our nurses don’t normally dress up like that, and would probably get a bit narky at you, and the patients are mostly too sick to care, but it would certainly cheer up the odd visitor.

And those visitors can indeed be odd.

They do that here also, and you absolutely positively have to have someone to drive you home.

Greetings. I am a Nigerian surgeon-prince, and you will be amazed to know there is a check for $10 million (US) wrapped around your appendix. Click here so that I can operate and split the money with you.

I have a list of possibilities.
What do you need, a sushi knife, alcohol, needle and thread?

I am sorry I don’t know if you are agreeing with me or not. We wear scrubs and running shoes and have no patience with patients who expect us to play out some antiquated nurse fantasy.

I’m calling out Bijou Drains on the sexism implied in his comment. I haven’t seen his reply yet.

Interestlingly, my wife had surgery for detached retina back in 1982. She was in the hospital for a week, three nights with her head between sandbags so she couldn’t move her head into an eyes-down position.
I had full vitrectomies in 2006 and 2009, where the eye is drained and the surgeon laser tack-welds the retina in place. It was outpatient, I was home before noon that day.
Things progress in a quarter century.
