DDD is money! We Tivo every single one of those, even if the theme is something we hate, like “fish.” Fieri has turned us on to a number of great little places we never would have found otherwise. In fact, we are trying to figure out a reason to head to Salt Lake City, just so we can try out the half dozen or so places there that have been on DDD. Guy rocks!
Hehe So how many people here will admit to looking up some of those places up on the web in a city you thought you knew well, just in case somebody else saw it and asks you?
I used to like Rachael Ray, but now her idiosyncrasies annoy me. I turn her on at 6:30 for a nap, because something about her voice just knocks me right out.
Alton Brown is my favorite. I have made some of his recipes; for instance, his baked mac and cheese is my go-to recipe. I also use a lot of his techniques and ideas.
Other personality shows I like: the Neelys are fun and their recipes are accessible and every day. Emeril has grown on me, though he’s a bit kitschy and gimmicky. Sunny is decent.
I enjoy the Challenges, and my husband loves Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, because he used to be a long haul trucker and is a diner connoisseur. I often find myself cringing during that show, because a lot of that food looks like a heart attack on a plate, which would be my husband’s ideal meal. Throwdown is fun, esp. when Bobby Flay loses.
Ted Allen is becoming a favorite, and I like the various shows he’s in.
The irony of all this is, as a vegetarian, I can’t eat most of the stuff they make on these shows. We’re watching the Ice Cream Clash on Challenge right now, though, and that’s right up my alley.
Don’t like: Sandra Lee, Paula Deen, Ina. Giada is hit or miss.
There are shows I enjoy on HG (did anyone else watch Design Star last night? Dan’s room, wow.) I can’t get into anything on the food network, even though I occasionally enjoy cooking. I’m an eat to live type, so I’m probably outside their intended demographic anyway.

Hate: Giada De Laurentis (creepy little hands), Sandra Lee, Guy Fieri (Stop eating over the food that’s cooking you uncouth slob!), Paula Deen, Ace of Cakes, Ellie Kreiger
Like: Tyler Florence, Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern
Love: Cake Boss, Marc Summers, Man V Food, Ted Allen, Ina Garten
I loved Tyler Florence when he was younger and thinner on Food 911 and came speeding to the “rescue” of some quivering housewife who couldn’t hardly microwave a Lean Cuisine.
The Barefoot Contessa creeps me out. She reminds me of Petunia Pig, with little trotters for feet.
Guy on DDD? Looks like a goombah from Joisey who got a gig playing in a punk rock revival band. Dude. It doesn’t suit you, any of it, give it up. But I would like his job, travelling around to find the place that serves the biggest Bucket of Eggs and Meat.
I don’t really dislike any food shows, though. I’m kind of poor and would love to be able to buy all those ingredients and whip up fabulous meals for an army of friends and relatives.
