# Why do welders need eye protection strong enough to guard against sun damage?

Same for big-iron riveters. 😃 Not that much of anything made of structural steel is hot-riveted anymore.

It’s been 20 years now, but in the late 90s I had a friend doing ironwork and they still used hot rivets occasionally back then.
