I remember when my oldest daughter swallowed a push-pin and my then-wife called 911. The firefighters were the only ones who responded. They checked her to make sure she was breathing and not otherwise in distress, then advised to take her to an ER to be safe. In the end (pun intended) my daughter was fine and passed it into her diaper. (We got a hilarious X-ray photo out of the whole deal.)
I figure if they have the training and can get there fastest then more power to them.
Short of a disaster of biblical proportions, you will never see a piece of fire apparatus transport a patient, they are HORRIBLE platforms for this for a legion of reasons.
