Most of the time when I post in an existing thread, it seems my responses never get noticed. I post answers in GQ and IMHO, and respond to threads in CS and the BBQ Pit. Rarely am I ever quoted or is a question in my post responded to. Do I just write in such a manner that doesn’t “pop” in people’s eyes or minds? This really isn’t a pity post at all…I’m very interested in the answer so I can write better posts in the future. I’ll post examples later if need be. Thanks. Adam ---

Most posts go unnoticed. You never want to be a person whose posts mostly do get noticed. There are a number of posters that I will click on a thread just so I can read their posts, but I almost never post anything that indicates that I have done so. (OK, so I don’t post all that often, and therefore may not be all that indicative of other posters’ behavior). You don’t notice it as much when other people’s posts go unnoticed as you do when yours do. It is one of the top 10 complaints on this board–right up there with “Why is this board so slow?” and probably above “why did the interesting thread disappear?” (Answer:because it was started by a sock or a troll.) ---

I dunno, I have the same doubts sometimes, but I just chalk it up to the fact that this is such a large community. Just because you don’t get quoted doesn’t mean that your posts are unnoticed. I know that I value every response to the threads I start, whether I quote it or not. Just keep on truckin’, I say. ---

**norinew** , I’ll bring the beer. Seriously, I like to think that my posts are ignored because they’re usually middle of the road…they’re not dumb enough to be derided and they’re not smart enough to be argued. My posts, regardless of forum, are most likely “average.” What’s the point of responding to “average” posts? Great posts will either get argued or be given a thumbs up. Bad posts will be insulted and mocked (and defended by a few stubborn people.) As long as I’m not a thread-killer, I’m OK with that. Thread-killing is bad, IMHO. Either you’re so brilliant that nobody can respond or your post is so stupid that nobody can respond to your post. Peace - DESK ---

Yeah, that’s probably a lot of my thing, too. In my own little community here in Cumberland, I’m one of the funnier, wittier, smarter folks around. But compared to the “Shining Star” Dopers, I’m just a little bit of flotsam in the creek. Yep, me too. I tend to bounce into opinionated debate threads, see folks lining up on either side of a divide, and feel like I have a 3rd perspective that’s better than either of them. I post it. Either no one notices, or there’s a consensus that it’s kinder to pretend that no one noticed that put such an asinine viewpoint into words than to call attention to it, I haven’t figured out which. ---

What I’ve noticed in those types of threads is that it tends to boil down to two or three people arguing with each other. If you step in with a new opinion, it’s easier to ignore you so you can get back to your Regularly Scheduled Disagreement™. ---
