That is my point. Viewed as a signal or a waveform, it is all analog, subject to noise, distortion, and corruption. You can define N discreet valid states, but you still have to move between them. “Digital” is a human interpretation of the signal, not an intrinsic property of the signal…what it means, rather than what it is. Probably seems pedantic unless you have made a career out of cleaning up signals that people screwed up, because they were “digital” and ground loops, poor shielding, reflections, etc. are thought to be analog problems.
