Why Does Streaming video throw away Commentaries and other Goodies?

I agree the license rights is probably the biggest problem.

I have seen an option on prime to change languages. English is usually the only choice. I haven’t checked many films.

Dvd extras has been discussed before in 2022.

I do want to add that the directors commentary for Year One is exceptional. As Harold Ramis’ last film it holds a special place in my mind. Equally the commentary for The Witch (or The VVitch) is wild cause the director (Robert Eggers) does nothing but complain about how terrible the movie is.

Bring back commentaries I say!

Most platforms have, once you select a show and go to the list of episodes, a section or tab for “extras” which can include trailers, commentary, post-episode “podcasts”, etc.

Although for extra visibility they will also sometimes make it a whole separate show. There was a Making of Game of Thrones “Documentary” that came out with the final episodes, they have separate “show” with KPOP Demon Hunters bonus content, etc.

I was going to say the same thing. I’ve never seen the whole movie with commentary on a steaming service, but many series come with some “making of”, “blooper reel” and other traditional extras presented as additional items, usually listed after the final episode.

I do miss the commentary audio, though. I frequently watched that.
