I want to hear more about this “dark l”
Yep. It’s totally ridiculous and so’s this thread. And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does.
Satire.
This is the best thread ever.

Let me tell you a little story.
Once upon a time, a long time ago, several of the letters were resting after a hard day’s work. Now there weren’t as many letters then as there are now, because this was a very long time ago. H, who was a tough, strong worker, was looking at J, who was as lovely back then as she is now. H was entranced by J, so he invited her to go for a walk along the stream.
Well, as time went on, H and J fell in love with each other, and eventually got married. A was the best man, and Z was the maid of honor. After H and J had been married for a couple years, they had a boy. And they named him I.
And now you know. . .
the REST of the story.
It’s been a gard day’s knihgt
And I’ve been workinh like a doh

WTF?
Yeah, yeah, I know–you’re right. But if you spent more time around here, you’d probably see it.
Good point.
Is it “avoid giving a straight answer” day or something?

H was entranced by J…
When I read this I thought it was a fancy way of saying “H was entered by J”

Apparently the OP thought he/she had found a way to get the rest of us to recognize the essential arbitrariness of alphabetic order. He/she picked a pair of consecutive letters at random, and in asking us why they are ordered the way they are, hoped we would notice this arbitrariness and comment on it.
Well, anything that pisses of **Exapno **makes me happy, so there’s that.
By the way, lots of things make me happy.

I do think it’s a little annoying that it’s slightly sorted by usage count, but not really. So I actually think it would be better if H came earlier, since it’s used more.
