There is a thread called Today in History. @panache45 used to post to it regularly, keeping it going, along with other posters.

Now that panache45 doesn’t seem to post here any more, the thread has dropped away.

I’ve tried searching for it a few times, using either “today” or “history” as the search term, and the filter to search thread titles only.

The thread never comes up in the search. How come?

I put “Today In History” in quote marks in the basic search box (no advanced tuning of the search) and this was the first hit, is this what you mean?

> [@Today in History](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/today-in-history/759530/1):

> Post an event in history that happened on the day/month of your post. Starting Day is July 10th, so until your calendar (or another poster’s calendar) turns to July 11th, you can only post events of July 10th. Once a playing poster who is actually on July 11th (their time) posts for that next day, posts about July 10th are no longer allowed until next year. And so on through the year. In other words, once a legitimate new day post is made, the game is reset for that day. Therefore, if a new da…

ETA: it’s the first hit for “today in history” without the quote marks, too.

I tried “today” and “history” because I couldn’t remember the full name of the thread. It doesn’t come up either way. Now that I konw the full name and can enter it, it does come up. But why doesn’t it come up for either “today” or “history”, which was all I could remember? couldn’t remember if it was “this day in history” or a variant on it.

FWIW, it’s the first thing that came up when I searched for _Today @panache45_ just now.

Also, for _History @panache45_.

Ha! I didn’t know the thread at all, so I was just going by what you said, your memory was better than you thought.

Thanks for the suggestions, now I have easy ways to find it.

I’m still puzzled, though, why it doesn’t come up in a title search for “today” or “history”. When I search those words, filtered for thread-title, I get lots of threads with “today” or “history” in the title. there have been recent posts to the “Today in History” thread, so why isn’t it coming up when I filter by “latest post” date?

Does it come up when you guys search “today” or “history”?

I guess those words are just too common. I tried:

> today in:title min\_posts:500

then it comes up in the first few hits

> history in:title min\_posts:500

and it’s the top hit

Also the top hit, for me, with _“history” in:title #thread-games_.

Strange. I get lots of other threads with “today” and “history” in the title, and when I limit it to most recent posts, they’re neatly arranged chronologically, but this thread isn’t there, even though there were posts in it quite recently.

You are right, same for me - last post was Jan 12th, right? I have tried various searches with Sort By = Latest Post, and it does not show up in the chronology where it should.

That would be me, yes. Thanks, @Northern_Piper for posting this – now I can goto ATMB and easily find the **Today in History** thread and not have to figure out where it is. It may be a Thread Game but it seems to me more of a MPSIMS (news stories).
