# Why doesn't the U.S. just give up on Middle East peace?

I think we would have given up on it a long time ago if it weren’t for the oil. [They’ve shown that they can cause quite a bit of disruption to our economy and our daily lives through their oil resources](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_oil_crisis).
