Obviously I don’t have much experience as an active Doper, but I’ve been a lurker here for a couple of years. I’ve participated on a number of bulletin boards and forums, and the dynamics are basically the same in all of them. In my experience, a lot of the “odd man out” feeling stems from one’s perception of his/her place (or lack thereof) in the community. I’ve killed more than a few threads in my time at various sites, but once I felt accepted and one of the gang, it didn’t bother me like it did when I was a newbie. When one doesn’t really know anyone on a forum, a lack of response can seem rather unfriendly. Take, for example, this post, my third. If I don’t get a response, I can either a) curl up in a fetal position and cry myself to sleep; b) decide that the people here don’t like me and leave, never to return; or c) post again somewhere else on the SDMB. If one uses option c often enough, one eventually becomes an accepted member of the group. After that happens, being a thread killer won’t sting as much. 🙂 ---

Well **kunilou,** have you got your answer, or have you given up on this thread in disgust? I’ve seen many, many Dopers post variations on the same question, so I think many people feel the same way from time to time. Personally, I hardly ever care who the last poster was. Whether I post to a thread depends on what I have to say, if anything, or if I think of something I believe might provide a laugh to the other Dopers. I might avoid a thread if I think it was started or taken over by a troll, but I certainly don’t think anybody thinks **you** are a troll. Sorry for the hijack earlier. BTW, I’m claiming this thread as **my** kill! ---
