Well, I am a southern girl. The heart wants what the heart wants. And I want to stay here. The pace is slower and the people I run with are nice. And the food, cannot beat it! ---

I have lived in the south all my life and I’m sick of it. The landscape is strip mall, church, poverty, repeat. Daily I curse the stratospheric cost of living in cities like Seattle and San Francisco, while praying for the cleansing nuclear war that Trump keeps teasing us with. Please, kill my city first. ---

Just so Beckdawrek doesn’t feel alone in defending Southern states, I’m a Jersey girl who moved to the South, and I wouldn’t ever want to live anywhere else. Never having to deal with massive snowfall is definitely a plus. Oh, sure, the humidity in the summer truly sucks, but I’ll take that over Northern winters any time. I have lakes and rivers just minutes away, and mountains and beaches an hour or two down the road. The pace seems to be slower here, so life in the South just strikes me as more relaxing and serene. And honestly, the people are nicer in general. I live in a suburb of the Capital of South Carolina, and in my neighborhood, everyone waves, stops to chat while walking their dogs, and will always step up to help a neighbor in need. Oh, sure, we have our share of Confederate flag waving knuckleheads, but they do not speak for all of us. You just hear about them more, because unfortunately, “someone did something nice” doesn’t get as much time in the national news spotlight as “racist Southerner did something hateful.” Plus, I have to mention the food. There’s no comfort food like a good down-home Southern meal. There’s a helluva lot to like about the South. Really…y’all should visit sometime and see for yourself! ---

Somebody’s OBVIOUSLY never gone sled-riding, or jumped in piles of leaves as a kid. And there’s nothing like curling up in a nice warm afghan on a cold night with cup of hot chocolate. Snow is absolutely gorgeous, and we have great food and music too. And there’s hardly any hockey in the south. (You have what, five teams?) I hate the heat, I hate humidity, and I hate summer. The only summer activity I like is swimming (I do love to swim). Other than that, fuck summer. When I’m old, I’m going to do the opposite of the whole, “fly south during the winter” and go somewhere cold during the summer. ---
