Why don't we (USA) have professional juries?

Thanks for your comments, Otto. I guess my perception of the U.S. judiciary gets a bit skewed by the rants I read on this board.:slight_smile:

I’m reminded of the professional witness/advocates in Heinlein’s ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’, I think it would be a very interesting idea.

It would be imperative that they be a class/jurisdiction unto themselves however, and not just be a branch of existing judicial or enforcement departments to avoid any possibility of coercion or conflict of interest.

I would love a jury of trained certified experts to sit at a trial as long as their impartiality and ethical aims could be guaranteed.
