The country of Australia does not owe the United States an apology. Sure, it’s tasteless and it’s in poor judgement of the company who has decided to sell the handbags… but to blame the entire country?

I agree that it is odd to have not heard from Zenster. It occurred to me that his letter was posted without his permission or simply posted and he didn’t mind - in which case, I wouldn’t expect him in here. But I re-read the OP and it said that the letter was posted at Zenster’s request. Where are you, Z?
Maybe things don’t hit me quite like they do other people. I think the bag is tacky and stupid looking. Chances are that they could be found in the U.S. - it certainly wouldn’t surprise me. It just doesn’t get me furious at Australia. Is it really supposed to? If I understand correctly, all of Australia isn’t promoting these handbags.
Geez, Zenster, I’ve really liked your recipe posts and you’ve always been nice. The tone of this letter, though, is pompous and I’m a bit embarrassed by it. Perhaps it was just the result of someone acting at the height of their emotion - never a good thing, in my book.
(But I can’t wait to see the letter Zenster wrote to the Republican party about selling the picture of Bush for profit. )

QBF usually has really nice (but overpriced) stuff. I bought the most gorgeous jacket there; it’s a wool/cashmere blend, and a buttery camel colo - okay, I’ll shut up now.
So I was a little surprised to hear that they were stocking the bags, since - even leaving their offensiveness aside - they’re pretty darn ugly.
Zenster’s done me a favor or two in the past and he asked me to post this stuff for him, so I agreed, I’d do the same for just about any other Doper, and I’d hope that they’d do the same for me. Zenster was really pissed about the matter, when he contacted me (about as pissed off as he was about the shitheads who torched that cat awhile back), and he figured (rightly, I’d say) that if no one else would be offended by the bags that Dopers would and they’d do something about it. Personally, I envy his self-discipline in staying away from the Boards. He also sent a pretty much verbatum e-mail to the Chinese, so the Aussies shouldn’t think that they’re the only ones getting flamed by him.
