We musicians often keep a tiny notepad near the bed, with a few tiny staff lines, ready for musical ideas that happen at those hours. It’s called an “inspiration pad”. Frequent users will keep a slightly larger pad nearby. This is called a “desperation pad”. _Strangers in the night…_ ---

I don’t usually remember my dreams. However, there are two dreams I have had numerous times, and I have “trained” my subconscious to wake up, then get up, and take care of a “real life” situation. The first dream is one about toilets. Numerous toilets, toilets in strange places, nasty toilets, whatever…but the central theme is toilets. This dream means, “Wake up, Stupid! You have to pee!” The second dream is more ominous. I dream about a headache. It took a while before I finally put two and two together. I am a migraineur, so the first thousand times I had that dream, I figured I was just reliving one of the many headaches I’ve had. A light bulb went on, eventually. I was dreaming I had a headache, because in “real life,” I actually had a headache. Not only that, I would have a headache when I woke up, and that’s a pisser start to any day. My subconscious mind was desperately trying to tell me, “Wake up, Stupid! You have a migraine and need to take your prescription medication!” I may or may not be visited by the Great Idea Fairy in the middle of the night. But I do get visits from the Tinkle Fairy and the Exploding Brains Fairy, and I know that a visit from either one of those two fairies means I need to get up and do something, NOW. ~VOW ---

I’m on the road for work right now, headed back tomorrow. Uffdah, this week she came and dropped glitter _every_ night. I packed _extremely_ light, with some clothes and notes. Knowing that my carry-on was full, I said to myself, _"Self, there’s no way she’s going to fit in my rucksack. At least after a bunch of twelve hour shifts, I know I can get some good rest . . .
