The best thing to do is just point out how these people are unpatriotic and unAmerican. And how people died for the rights they want to tear up. Because you are a Real American. ---

My grandpa called it “the dole” - he was also from PA, from Pittsburgh. ---

I thought that was because trying to define ‘membership’ in such a transitory population, especially when most paid no union fees, would be virtually impossible. Dancing around it and saying ‘I’m not at liberty to discuss that’ was his hamhanded way to avoid anwering the question at all, since it probably doesn’t have an answer, and he couldn’t admit that. I gotta think some of those panhandlers did hate him though - imagine talking to him every day, it would wear thin I would think. I do miss Smashy. He was pretty fun while he lasted, in a demented sort of way. ---
