I see the use of MAGAts to refer to Trump supporters in many threads, generally P&E. It’s used pretty casually and it appears to be perfectly fine to say. Why? It’s clearly a homophone of maggot. It’s derogatory. Basically calling a whole subset of people animals. What gives? I’ve tried reading the rules, etc but not sure I found anything on point. So, yeah, it’s actually a matter for discussion rather than just being taken for granted.
For the record, I use it (and admitted to doing so in that thread) when I’m trying to be deliberately insulting to that group, which I do distinguish from the term “conservatives” and even “Republicans” though right now in the US the difference is tiny and decreasing every day.
