# "Why I Quit My Job", or, "Gaijin's First Pit"

Mehitabel - Oh, I know. I’m 40. I remember the days when High School shop teachers would regularly beat the shit out of kids for very little reason.

Got the image burned into my head of the freak we had picking up a kid (who was 6’ tall) and slamming him violently into a brick wall just because the kid didn’t have a pass to go from the classroom to the restroom directly opposite. Heck, the teacher in that room never gave _anyone_ passes - he didn’t see the point in wasting that much time just to let you walk across the hall.

Yeah, no lawsuits and not too many parental problems in those days… That incident didn’t even rate school gossip!

OK, beating the shit out of–I never saw that happened. I did see a nun, about 4-10 and 200 years old, slap a boy across the face who richly deserved it, but that was it.

Our shop teacher, Mr. Esposito, was a sweetie. We did have a Mechanical Drafting teacher known as Tangorra the Terror, though, but all he’d do was grab your pencil and throw it across the room.

Anyway, the point was that the kid was the last person anybody believed.

Isn’t it amazing that an otherwise reasonable job can turn into hell when you have lousy management?

Jobs don’t suck, managers do!
