To jab1: I understand your statements, but I have to ask: What “neighboring county?” Ormsby? Carson City “absorbed” Ormsby County, some time in the last 20 years or so; it’s now an “independent city,” like St. Louis or Roanoke. Did this change have any effect on brothels which may have been in Ormsby County but within Carson City?
All I can tell you for sure is that according to a list on this website , there are several brothels located in the community of Moundhouse.
Can I safely assume that Moundhouse is in a different county? According to www.mapblast.com , it’s located just a few miles east of Carson City, Unfortunately, Mapblast does not include county lines on its maps and I can’t seem to get Mapquest to work. (A map appears for a second, then it’s replaced by a notice that it’s expired from the cache. Huh?) (I could find a map of Nevada here in the Library, but I wanted to find an online reference.)

Well, that was easier than I thought. I used Yahoo Maps and found out that Mound House (that’s the correct spelling) is in Lyon County, and that Carson City is, indeed in a different County. Shoulda used Yahoo! in the first place :o .

I have to agree with jack on this one. In a country where freedom of speech and relegion are preached day in and day out to Americans, then why make this issue any different. In the relegion aspect we allow people to do as they please in their beliefs and morals as long as they are not affecting that of another. In this case if you want to sell your body for sex, then have at it. I personally have spoke with several prostitutes, and it is there choice to be doing it, regardless of their reasons. As far as creating more marital problems, if you wife/husband decides that they want to pay to have sex, then that marriage was not meant to be anyway.
One final note: Why do the people and the gov’t of this “oh so great land” worry about petty things of this nature. They could be using all the money that they waste on the “drug war” and prostitution for research into cancer or aids.
dgerman70- Thanks for the backup on the connection with the War on Drugs. As a society, we now arrest and imprison more marijuana smokers than we do violent criminals of all stripes, and marijuana not only has yet to kill someone, but is a proven and recommended medication. Sadly, militaristic conservatives continue the War, and innocent civilians suffer and die.
Certainly there are those who would argue that no one suffers under the criminalization of prostitution. Maybe we should ask the prostitutes who get beaten by their “managers” and “disgruntled customers,” and who can’t even report it to the police without facing jail time and harassment.
jack, you don’t know the half of it-- you don’t have to be a “working girl” to get guff from the cops when reporting an assault-- the most heinous personal acct. of this i know of comes from my best friend from college: when she was twelve, she was raped by a family friend at some time during his driving her home from school; when she called the police, the recipient of the call made sure to ask her what she was wearing!-- typical to the point of being cliche, and tragic-- of course she hung up in disgust, and the rape went unreported… so, think of how often that sort of thing goes on-- you can’t blame criminalized prostitution for rotten treatment of twelve-year-old rape victims. Rather, there is an over-arching ick factor within many societies on earth which attaches carnal knowledge in the female with sin and the downfall of man-- this very “fear of a female planet” is a contributor to rape, but legal permission to treat women’s bodies as nothing but jism receptacles ('cause you know we’re that and so much more
) does not further the cause of women’s civil rights, either.

–and there’s the specific ick that i’m guessing was cecil’s intent: the pathetic, tragic commerce between two creatures over an activity that by rights should take place within an institution which renders dignity to both parties-- a love relationship-- even if it’s only passing affection for ten minutes-- if they’re both there to get off, then it’s not commerce; if one of them gains income with which to buy drugs or food, then it is. so-- ICK.
the hog squeal of the universe is coming from my modem!
For ages, some women have married strictly for financial security, having sex because it’s a “obligation”. (See The Onion’s story on sex for security.) Why is this not considered prostitution? Just because the state sanctions it with a license?
Judges 14:9 - So [Samson] scraped the honey into his hands and went on, eating as he went. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they ate it; but he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey out of the body of the lion.
prostitution is a business that should be allowed to have a license subject to proper health testing and paying taxes as other wage earners do.
If the idea of selling a body for money bothers so many of you, don’t you think there are thousands of marriages and relationships where the female sticks around and lets her partner have his way is for the material benefit she derives? The same would also apply in reverse.
And Solley11, as far as your comments on Rio de Janero, I have a son who was in So. Anerica recently at a city about 1000 miles N. of Rio called Recepe (unsure of spelling) and he reported the same thing about the cleanliness of the prostitutes and their whoe operation. Thank God he went down there with his wife-to-be, however.
Skelton,
The city your referring to is called Recife".
It is a beautiful place for one to visit with their SO. It would also have been a good place for your son to have gone for his bachelor party. Of course, in this event, I doubt his future wife would have been their for him on his return.
