Ah a rant about libraries… I was in the library in college today (have been everyday for the past two weeks- the joys of international economics!) and with the noise level in there a newcomer could be forgiven for thinking it was the canteen. Our library has three floors, the first floor is the study area, and its broken into three sections. Two general study areas and a Graduate study area. The 2nd floor has general study area, 2 computer areas, and a computer lab. Theres also a graduate lab. The third floor is the group study area, where people are officially allowd to talk queitly. The first floor is a complete joke, our library has three rules, be quiet, no cell phones and no eating or drinking except water. All of those rules were broken while I was in there, more then once. Most people are ok with regard to the cell phone rule, people generally put the phone on silent and take calls in the stairwells, but the idiot across from me figured it was ok to talk for an hour! As for the maintaining quiet rule, thats not been implemented at all, I wouldnt mind but were supposed to have porters monitor the place, to keep it quiet, instead they sit at the front door and read the newspaper. While I was there I was listening to my ipod, and could still here poeples conversations. Thats just nuts! As for the 3rd floor, thats like party central! Also the library is freezing. ---

Good lord! If my school library was like the ones you folks are talking about I’m afraid I’d get the chair for bludgeoning a library full of people to death with an atlas. Shit, I worry that my headphones will bleed sound even though I have the volume way down. ---
