Why is a convicted felon rifling through America's computer files?

OK, d-e-m-e-n-t-i-a, dementia. You stink.

Thanks, elucidator! I figured that since I spelled it out for y’all, I’d get a pretty quick response. Otherwise, it would have been a month or more.

Guinastasia: Imagine having a president who CAN’T SPELL, can’t keep his dick in his britches, and can’t tell the truth, so help him God!!!

amazonian: The greatest trick Bill Clinton ever pulled off was convincing people that he didn’t exist, at least not really, though that depends on what your definition of ‘is’ is…

Skid Row: Who’s the real terrorist? Gee, I dunno, is it you? Don’t you think Ossama Bin Laden qualifies? Maybe Saddam Hussein? Our ruling party (sorry about your luck there) and our president and attorney general are at least Americans and arguably Christians. They’re not likely to fly airplanes loaded with hundreds of passengers into buildings loaded with thousands of innocent people. Am I scared yet? Yup. There are still WAY too many folks out there – and I mean WAY out there – who can’t see the difference between a terrorist and a human being.

Lucy, point well taken. I shall endeavor to be more forthright in future OP’s and not withhold crucial information from other Dopers.

TBone2,
Well, you/ve taken some gratuitous pot shots at BC, but I notice you haven’t actually addressed the OP. Why has GWB appointed a criminal to head up a major government program?

I think there’s a pretty big difference between lying about a blow job and lying about national security, (not to mention destroying government documents and computer files) but even if Clinton was a “perjuror,” how does that sanitize Poindexter?

Whoa, boys! Repeat after me:

This is not a partisan issue, this is not a partisan issue, this is not a partisan issue.

Do you want a convicted felon who ignores the word of the law responsible for collecting all your sales information, your library rentals, able to scan your face out of a crowd – do you think this man will respect the rule of law? This could not get any more big brotherish if they had an illuminati logo and said “information equals power.”

Oh, shit!

I could swear that just a few years ago, I was being inundated with Republicans going on and on and on and on about how Clinton committed perjury, and that was the worst crime since Cain killed Abel, and that it didn’t matter that he was lying about a blow job or his golf score or whatever, he was and is and shall always be a LIAR LIAR LIAR.

Poindexter, on the other hand, may have lied and “misled Congress” (like that took much effort), and it may have been about far more important issues than a blow job, but hey, it got overturned, so it must not have really happened. He is, therefore, an upstanding and forthright citizen, and an excellent choice to have control over an agency that gathers and examines sensitive information.

I wish I could say that hypocrisy in politics surprises me, but sometimes its magnitude manages to do so.

Dr. J

No, they were dismissed on a technicality. There’s no doubt at all that he was guilty. He was just never made to pay for his crimes.

Well, I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but as you see above, I am quite dismayed at the administration’s selection of Admiral Pointdexter in any official capacity, given his willingness to lie under oath. I feel that makes him an absolutely untrustworthy public official, and he should never again be eligible to earn so much as a dime from the coffers of the United States Treasury, much less lead an office or set policy.

Of course, I applied that same objection to Mr. Clinton, and for that reason supported his impeachment.

I don’t believe that the charge of hypocrisy can be correctly levelled against me.

Not that you were.

Tejota, in fairness to Bricker, he DID acknowledge this point in a follow up post.

Or look at the post right above this one for that matter.

TBone, now we’re just being silly. C’mon-that’s a RED HERRING!!!

Sheesh! (And yes, I know I misspelled dementia. I admit I’m not the world’s best speller. Okay?)
