> As mentioned upo thread, there really are 4-5 contemporary female Londoners who are more interestting.

Yeah, it’s hard to take you seriously when one of the ones you cite is Jessie J, though, isn’t it? Good songwriter and all , but terminal case of Theatre-Kid Face and I really, really don’t see the political nous. Unless you’re talking about the gender politics of _Do It Like A Dude_, the one Jessie J song I do actively hate.

And Adele does occasionally touch on politics - _Hometown Glory_, for one.

> She is really not all that. She is, however, flavour of the month/year, in a poor year.

Except she had a bestselling album and hit singles four years ago already. She’s no flash in the pan.

My boyfriend went awayyyy. It was perfect… i don’t understand… I’m so angry at him. It’s not fair. It’s so difficult being 21.

So your problem is that she writes songs her audience could actually, I dunno, _relate_ to?

Adele’s talent is that she can interpret a song. Listen to Someone Like You-not the horrible remix with the band but the original with just the piano. I personally think she conveys a depth of emotion that is more than just “my boyfriend broke up with me and I’m sad”. She can really really sing. Don’t get me wrong, I like pop teenaged angst _cough_KellyClarkson_TaylorSwift_cough\* but Adele has a complexity to her voice that they lack.

> I do not see why that matters. I love Adele’s singing, and her personality has nothing to do with it. Also, cursing does not make one unpleasant.

I think it’s the emotion and pain you can hear in her live version of “Someone like you” that really strikes a chord in most women I know.

I’m sure I heard somewhere it’s the most chosen song at karaoke in the UK just now - lots of angry women out there howling it at their ex’s, making her our superstar.
