He did disappear for a while. He’s talked about it on his podcast. Essentially he tried and mostly didn’t work, became an alcoholic while everybody else involved with the show became successful and took years to find a new groove and get comfortable with himself.

He looked like he wanted to backhand Marilyn Manson on TTD. _I_ would have, and gotten fired for my effort, but Chris Hardwick restrained himself from doing so, admirably.

This is the perfect description of him. He’s parlayed his standup success into a podcast empire. And then took that on to some TV success (like Talking Dead etc.). I find the whole nerd culture somewhat tiresome (while liking a lot of so-called nerd stuff…I find much of the “nerds win!!!” attitude lame). But he’s really done a good job of building an empire (of sorts) out of that. (I do really like the podcast.)

I was sort of surprised when he started popping up everywhere all of a sudden…I only know him from The Nerdist podcast. I found him to be incredibly overbearing; I gave up after a dozen or so episodes. I’ve saved a few episodes with guests that I’d really like to hear, but I can’t bring myself to listen to them.

This is interesting because, while I am Aware of some of his work from reading about it and seeing him on a couple talk shows, I mostly identify him as the host of Singled Out 17 or 18 years ago. I alao remember him for his old girlfriend, the Real World model turned actress. And hosting some dating show. So if I saw him host a bunch of shows I would think “Wow. It’s incredible the host of Singled Out came out of nowhere after years to become such an in demand tv personality.”
Of course, I probably associate Anderson Cooper with “The Mole” more than anything else, also.

To add another piece of the puzzle, [Legendary Entertainment bought Nerdist Industries](http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/legendary-nerdist-entertainment-industries-347123) last year, so now there’s Hollywood money and networking behind it.

Having finally just watched a few episodes of \* At midnight\*, it’s my least favorite by far of his ventures. The show just doesn’t have it.
Still, he’s the nerd Ryan Seacrest.

I don’t find him funny at all, but he is tolerable as a host. I can’t stand the Nerdist podcast though. His two co-hosts are even less funny and seem to enjoy listening to themselves much more than the guests. It’s too bad as he seems to get all the big time actors/comedians etc. He could learn a lot from Maron.
