Well, maybe you need to clarify what you do believe. Do you think, like **SA** has intimated, that the Clinton marriage is indeed just a political prop, or a sham so to speak? Not once have I said that I think it is, but then again, it doesn’t seem so important of a matter than I’m willing to a form belief systems around it, either.

If you think the Clinton marriage is a sham, then I repeat the questions I asked earlier: why do you believe that and who are you to judge it as immoral?

> [@](#):
>
> Yes, stating that since a lot of poeple believe something does not make that thing true. That is what I understand the appeal to majority to mean. However, that’s not what I did. I was showing a poll, and using it to specifically illustrate how much some people are “outside the mainstream”. I didn’t use it to try and prove any factual point.

The question I asked “What does it have to do with her worth as a leader” was summarily answered by you with a “This is just nuts” followed by statistics showing that most Americans believe blah-blah-blah. The only point you could have been proving with such a response was that most Americans have a certain opinion about a certain subject, but none of that addresses the question I posed: WHAT DOES HRC’s MARRIAGE HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH HER WORTH AS A LEADER?

If you can’t answer that without using fallacies, then perhaps the answer isn’t so obvious as to warrant a “This is just nuts” kind of reaction.

> [@](#):
>
> Moral issues are tricky that way. They aren’t black and white. It’s difficult to measure them, and they mean different things to different people.

That doesn’t stop you from calling HRC immoral by being married to Bill, though. Funny, that.

> [@](#):
>
> However, if we are to assume that yes it is in fact true that Hill and Bill have an open sham marriage, then you need to just trust me that this is not something that sits well with typical American voters.

And fifty years ago, a black President would not have sat well with American voters, either. Would that have made black people inherently unfit for public office?

Keep holding on to that fallacy of yours.

Well shit, SA. Your head is so far up your ass. Not only has Bush lied, not only is he tainted with dishonesty in his presidency and his past, but his Cabinet members are liars too. I’m thinking of Rumsfeld on 60 Minutes, where he asserted he hadn’t said XY and Z, and they showed him transcripts that proved he had.

SA, we get it. You are a Republican. You are glad Bushco is in office. But when there’s enormous proof of lying, dissembling and disengenousness rampant in this administration, why must you insist it’s all NOT TRUE? It’s as clear as the nose on your face! Why can’t you admit it and say it’s the price of doing politics or something and that you still support Bush? Damn…

“It takes a village to raise a child.” That statement alone speaks volumes about her character, and her belief system. I disagree with her statement, and her beliefs. I disagree with her vision of this country with her ideas of personal freedom.

There are plenty of reasons to dislike HRC based on her politics, without being sexist or being a Clinton-Basher. Accusations of sexism attempt to disguise the more legitimate reasons to dislike her. Her views on individual freedom are anti-ethical to mine. That’s reason enough for me.

> if Hillary was willingly participating in a “sham”, “open” marriage with a “philanderer” then she is somehow blameless. That she is in a catch 22 situation that will result in controversy no matter what. I’m simply pointing out that, if true, this is no ones fault but her own. If she didn’t want controversy or embarassment than she shouldn’t have put herself into this situation in the first place.

What? Shouldn’t have put herself in the situation in the first place? What, is she supposed to have second sight, to go along with her propensity for evil witchcraft and eating babies etc? Hint-maybe she didn’t know about his fooling around until after their vows. And even if she did know ahead of time, she would not be the first woman to say to herself–“he’ll settle down, they all do.”

Yo-this is from all the wives out there (including me) whose husbands have cheated on them at some point in their marriage to all those who now say that marriage is NOT sacred and we should just kick these assholes to the curb–go to hell.

Who are you to judge whether a woman should stay in a relationship or not? Is she physically or verbally abused? NO. Who made you the Moral Police for relationships that you are not in?

It’s up to HER to decide whether her marriage ends or not–and it is NONE of our business. Really.

But. Let’s take that argument to its logical conclusion. IF the President’s and FL’s marriage is our business, then everyone’s marriage is our business–because your life may touch mine in some way. So, I want to know all the inner workings of YOUR marriage–who drives the bus? Who initiates sex? Which spouse expects a free ride because of their putting up with some not so nice qualities in the other spouse? Who truly has the final say-so with the kids? The in-laws? The neigbors?

Just reveal to us the inner workings of your private balance of power. Do tell-we thrive on dirt here.

BC’s proclivities did not disqualify him from being an effective President–nor did HRC’s loyalty reflect anything but her own personal feelings re: her marriage.

I highly doubt that someone so rapacious as to power etc could produce such a quality child as Chelsea. Let’s talk about the twins a bit, hmm? By God, if I had to choose a candidate based on the ways the kids’ turned out–I’d back BC any day over W.

As to the “it doesn’t take a village to raise a child”–I beg to differ. I pay taxes for schools, I pay for parks, I entrust my church/preschool/local schools with my kids everyday. I look to my neighbors for neighborhood watch–to keep OUR kids safe, as well as the rest of us. I participate in local food drives, charity events, and programs such as Healing Racism to make MY community a better place for ALL the kids and people here. It takes every damn person in my town to pull together and provide a decent way of life for the future generations. We eat at local restaurants, use local shops and the local mall-- I don’t live in Mayberry, but it’s damn close.

But, perhaps you are raising yours in an old air raid shelter, and have no need for any of the above.

The stench of moral sanctity and righteousness is almost overwhelming in this thread. So, HRC is to be condemned for staying married to a philanderer–what a notion. Who decided that a commitment to marriage (no matter how inconprehensible to some) was to be condemned? Who are any of you to judge?

And just how does this jive with the crammed down our throats “family values” position? HRC should have been lauded by the Far Right for her commitment to her sacred vows–the fact that she is condemned speaks volumes to me about the hypocrisy of that same body.

I think you take “it takes a village…” way to literally, dude. All she’s saying is that children thrive in a community. If espousing that makes someone worthless to you, go live on a deserted island for a while and enjoy all the individual freedom you want.

I had the best set of parents one could ever imagine, and my childhood and my life were made so much richer (and my parents’ job was made so much easier) by other family members, teachers, neighbors, friends, and all the other people who were around. In fact, I’d say that the “It takes a village” idea is best exemplified in the Republican fantasy world of Small Town America where I grew up.

Of course, I assume you have actually read Mrs. Clinton’s book, and you would _never_ have based such rage on the right-wing talk radio caricature of it. Right?

You’re not listening. ITAVTRAC is NOT a philosophy that espouses telling people what to do. It’s not about anyone telling you _how_ to raise your child at all. Are you wanting to debate George Bush or are you wanting an answer to your own OP? If you want to talk about Bush, why don’t you start the appropriate thread rather than assailing me for trying to explain, as you asked, why Hillary is despised (I don’t like the word ‘hate;’ it’s too strong) by so many of us around the country.

I try to answer and I get lots of posts challenging me to ‘prove’ my analyses. There is nothing to prove as I’m merely offering my estimation as to why people feel the way they do about her, which is what you allegedly wanted to know.

Perhaps you should have phrased your OP differently, something like “Why is Hillary hated and you better be able to prove it…and oh, yeah, you better be ready to prove Bush isn’t just as bad.”

That, I think, would be a more appropriate, if lengthy, OP title.

Nice straw man, SA. \*\* You\*\* are the one who said that Clinton, and therefore Hillary, were tainted by dishonesty both personal and institutional, and intimated that that was why you “despise” Hilary. I asked you why you did not apply the same labels to Bushco. Then you got huffy and asked why all of a sudden we were talking about Bush in this thread which was about Hillary, yadda yadda.

Cuz you brought it up first, you sticky smelly meat curtain! I guess I didn’t go as far as I needed to. Why don’t you think it’s fucking hypocritical to extend those accusations against one side and not the other? If the shoe fits and all that.

It’s no wonder people think the right gets maligned on this board. Most amusing! You construct a straw man by trying to deflect the issue to Bush (and even Rumsfeld, apparently) because you are evidently at a loss to adequately defend Hillary, and then when I point out the hijack attempt you accuse _me_ of constructing a strawman.

Like I said, amusing, but not very clever.

Au contraire! It is only one of quite a few reasons. Do you recall – or have you even read? – the early part of this thread where I mentioned such things as smugness, superiority, arrogance, attempting to foist herself on the country as co-president, etc., etc.?

> [@essvee](#):

I did? I asked why we were talking about Bush “all of a sudden”? Cite, please. I knew perfectly well why you wanted to talk about Bush: you’re at a loss to defend Hillary against accusations of dishonesty and smug, arrogant superiority.

Bwahaha…meat curtin? That’s a good one, I must admit. Did you make that up yourself or did you get it from one of the other kiddies at recess?

> [@essvee](#):
>

It may well be hypocritical, but I’m far from convinced that Bush lied as you say…and not only that, but I know that you don’t know, either. There is absolutely no way that you, not being George Bush’s brain, can be certain as to whether he lied or was given what turned out to be erroneous information.

> [@essvee](#):
>
> It’s no wonder people think the right gets maligned on this board.

They don’t “think” it; it’s as plain as the nose on your face. But that’s okay, it’s a left-leaning board. It’s more interesting here than it would be on a right-wing board where everyone is preaching to the choir. And there are a lot of fun, smart and interesting people here. That’s one thing I’ll say for liberals: they’re more colorful and fun than most conservatives.

> [@essvee](#):
