# Why is Jupiter called Jupiter?

Religions change with time, and are never uniform within a single culture. Maybe, to the people who named the stars, Ishtar/Venus/other feminine deity was the most powerful of all the gods. It wouldn’t be the first time that matriarchal religious systems were subsumed into later patriarchal ones.
