This weekend the right side of my scalp and my right earlobe went numb. I don’t remember it happening previously. Facts possibly related, specific to this weekend: I flew across the country, had very little sleep, shaved my head for the first time, carried heavy bags on my shoulders. For what reason would my scalp be numb for several days? Should I regain sensation anytime soon?

Well, that’s unusual. The OP calls _himself_ a numbskull. Seriously, though, I’d go see a doctor if I were you. While numbness can be insignificant, it can also indicate something really worrisome. Grab the phone now, and make an appointment. Now.
