# Why is New Orleans below sea level?

New Orleans sinking? St. Louis disappearing? Feh, that’s nothing.

Just wait until [Cumbre Vieja](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumbre_Vieja) falls into the Atlantic and wipes out the entire eastern seaboard of the U.S. (not to mention much of the Atlantic coasts of Europe and Africa).
