Why is NFL viewership declining?

Never mind

The dog fighter played for the Eagles and the Falcons. The rapist played for the Steelers.

Vick also played for the Steelers

I stand corrected. Thank you.

Yes, the once great Pittsburgh Steelers have, of late, employed both a rapist and a dog fighter. A pedophile place kicker is likely next.

If anything, people would actually watch because of the controversy. I think Kaepernick is actually bringing attention to the league and creating controversy, and he’s probably bringing in new audiences to boot, at least when it comes to the start of 49ers games. Those who are turned off by it probably watch him for the same reason that some liberals listen to Rush Limbaugh – to get angry.

Not to make light, but wife-abusing placekicker Josh Brown is available. :frowning:

Dan Rooney assures me the club will hold out for a pedophile, preferably one who has admitted to canabalism.

City of Champions, after all.

Kap apparently talked up Fidel Castro today to an interviewer from a Miami newspaper. That almost feels a bit like trolling at this point.

I think it’s a combination of several things. Several people have mentioned the increased availability of things like Netflix and Hulu. I think the weather has been a part of the problem this year as well. Football is a cold weather sport, and even the teams up north are not having the cold weather games fans grew up with.

Another problem, from my point of view at least, is the league trying to make parity a good thing. Other than the Patriots and the Browns, there isn’t any team that has been consistently good or bad over the last 15 years. Good teams get punished by the salary cap, and it seems like they always lose their 3rd and 4th best players to mediocre teams. It seems like most of the teams hover around the .500 mark, and worse, the league seems to consider that a good thing. I like having good teams to admire their brilliant play and bad teams to laugh at their ineptitude, it makes watching more interesting.

Also, with regards to the commentators, they just aren’t as entertaining as they used to be. I really enjoyed watching Troy Aikman play on Sunday. Listening to him call the games isn’t nearly as entertaining. The NFL could use someone with the talent of John Madden to emerge as a commentator.

For me, I wish I could get the NFL Sunday Ticket without having Directv. I can do that in baseball and it is great being able to choose the game I want instead of what FOX or CBS tells me I am going to watch.

In a lot of ways Redzone is better and is available on Cable. You see every important play of every game. It takes some getting used to to watch but I enjoy it, being a fan of a team outside my market.

I used to always like to watch a crushing defense just destroy a team. Now with all the new rules to protect from concussions, the defenses are pretty much hamstrung. I realize they had to do something, but it just killed all my interest.

Or, as my wife calls Redzone: “NFL ADHD TV.”

Or the late, great Howard Cosell. He didn’t have the X’s and O’s knowledge of a Madden, but he certainly was entertaining. Or Mr. “Turn out the lights, the party’s over,” Don Meredith.

Eh, I don’t really think this is true. At least, whatever rule changes in favor of passing have occurred, there’s been something almost equal in terms of bad offenses (which goes back to the bad product explanation). Scoring is only on a very slight uptick… maybe like 1 or 2 points a game.

(Just think about that 6-6 OT game the Seahawks and Cardinals played)

I have it, but I am in a weird grandfathered situation.

I had DTV and ST for about 8 years and then DTV changed their channel lineup and some other things that pissed me off, so I switched to cable. But I asked if I could keep DTV even without a base package, and they agreed. Howver, every time I have technical issues, I have to explain it to them. I must be the only person in the country with this “plan”.

I only got ST so I could watch the Packers out of market. I don’t watch any other games. The trouble is, the pack is so popular that they are on broadcast or basic cable almost every week, I think I had to resort to ST twice this season so far. What a waste of money! I long for the day when ST loses its exclusive, and you can buy games ala cart.

All you need is $1000 for a family of four!

You might be able to fly your family to Philly from where ever you are and get 4 Sixers tickets for less than that.
