# Why is the message board so damn slow?

It seriously takes me a good minute or two to open a thread.
I have a DSL connection and I have tried two different browsers (IE 5.5, Netscape 4.7) and have seen no improvment. Is it the fact that it isn’t a static page?

I’m with Shoshana. Failure more often than success. . .
I don’t think it has much to do with connection speed. It’s on Cecil’s end, not enough gun power in the database software or hardware.

Heh, should I mention that when I use the SDMB at school, it takes mere seconds to load a forum?
Good ol’ cable.
But don’t feel bad, at home my 56 keeps it nice and slow.

Try loading the main page, [straightdope.com](http://straightdope.com), that should be fast 🙂
BTW, in your user profile you can turn things on & off to make minor speed improvements. Like turning off having to view Sigs of any kind.
That one I jumped on as soon as I read about it.
