I’ve heard microwave and nuker, although I was the one who picked up nuker in high school and infected my family with the usage. Zap and nuke as well. Microwave in the form of a verb.
Wave? like, shortwave? ham radio? (and there we see my 80s roots )
Never mike. I’d be looking for an actual microphone or wondering if you meant to bug my pizza in imitation of ‘The Fantastic Voyage’. :dubious:

I hadn’t thought about the mechanical aspect of calling a remote control the clicker. Since IT uses ‘click’ for button pressing, it seemed logical to me. I mostly call it the remote, though.
'Scuse me. I’d join in here, but I’ve got to go burn some (photo)copies for the boss.
Afterwards, I might find a couple minutes to nuke some popcorn in the microwave, but since I’m in a hurry, I’d probably slur that last to “my’gowev” (or something).
But musicians like yo use cool and trend setting words so I’m guessing they took mic as a shorten for it Where i don’t know any chefs that are hip and ahead of there time or any that even use ebonics!
I guess you weren’t paying attention to those hygiene films in Health class, were you?
Grew up in Chicago area, lived in OK and Germany for a while. The machine itself is always microwave and the verb for using it is either “to nuke” or “to zap”. The television is a TV or the tube. The remote control is called the remote, the ‘mote or the clicker (it doesn’t matter if the device is for the TV or the stereo). The refrigerator is the fridge to everyone, except to my grandmother who always called it the ice box. Microphones are “mics” (pronounced “mike”).
I like the idea of calling the microwave something else but I have friends named “Mike” and “Steve” and a personal name just sounds too familiar, like I plan on dating it later. Maybe I’ll call it a nonionizing microwave radiation device or a NMR (pronounced “NEE-mur”). “Hey, stick this in the NMR and nuke it for 30 seconds.” Has a nice ring to it.
All the girl groups had great songs.
Katrina and the micro Waves – Nuking at lunchtime “I’m nuking at lunchtime, woah-oh, and don’t it heat good!”
The Go-Gos – Radiation “Radiation’s all I’m really wanting, radiation gotta zap some rays.”
Debbie Gibson – Electric Youth
“Zappin’ it to ya
The pressure’s everywhere
Goin’ right through ya
The fever’s in the air”
Blondie had Atomic and Fade Away and Radiate
Thinking of those songs just gives me a warm glow.
Naw. You have to invite Katrina over for that.
As another poster like to point out, the crow has been dealing with leftovers long before microwave cookery. Reheat it in the crow.
If fridge is short for the brand Frigidaire, and the big name in early microwave ovens is Radarrange, maybe the device should be called the rade. :smack:
