Why is this Dilbert Funny?

The real question is why you would reprint that strip, which makes no sense out of context, in a calendar.

You’re right. Out of context it makes no sense. But in context, I can see how it would be really funny. The joke is that the comic has nothing to do with Peanuts* and yet it still includes the obligatory Peanuts reference.

Filler?

Just a guess… I have the calendar, but it’s still in the box because I haven’t had a desk since the beginning of the year (was selling insurance and now temping - I’ve been a LOT more active here lately because I have absolutely nothing to do, as opposed to when I was previously busy all the time).

Dilbert is kind of a hard strip to work a Peanuts reference into, unlike a lot of other strips that just let their usual thing go for the tribute. I think it’s just a play on the name - segueing from cashews to Peanuts. Granted it’s awkward and not terribly humorous except in sort of a surreal sense when you take it out of context, but I still say bravo to all the cartoonists who pretty much universally broke from their usual thing to pay tribute to the master.

Drug test = urinalysis = “pee”.
Cashews = “nuts”.

That’s really all there is to it.

Lordy, that’s it Max. I completely missed the connection, but that’s perfect.

I was crossing my fingers while scrolling down, but Max beat me to it. Ahh, Dilbert. You think it’s just a cute cartoon about office life, but then this comes along and real-ly makes you think.

You know, that’s strip (along with the entire comics page from that day) has been hanging in my basement for years, and I never got it. Until now.

The wonders of the SDMB, I tells ya.

:smack:

Oh, man, a DOUBLE JOKE in Dilbert. Subtlety, I see. I think Dogbert wrote that one. :wink:

This explains the joke in my “Get Fuzzy” desk calendar last week!

Punchline was “Did Charlie Brown ever get to kick that football?”

I love Dilbert but this is just bad. At least I get it now
